1. fixed bug in learning feature.

2. added support for auto profile start.  you can now automatically start any single profile without having to click to enter it.  this function coupled with the 'start at' function can allow the application to start directly into a device listing section of the application.

you can select the profile to autostart in the 'admin' section of the application.  towards the bottom you will find 'Profile List'.  Click 'Start with:' (pic 1) to slide into the available profile or choose none to turn off (pic 2).  Once you have chosen which profile or none click the red 'Update' button (pic 1) to save.

Now exit the application and start it again to run it with the profile autostart function applied.

To utilize the 'start at' function edit an existing Profile and at the bottom you will see the 'start at' field (pic 3).  Click the field and you will be presented with your start at choices (pic 4).  you will need to create the categories and sub categories before being able to select them here.   Select where you want that profile to auto start at and save the edited profile.

We have developed a desktop manager for the current Blackberry vidcam applications.

See here:  Desktop Manager Information Page CLICK HERE

This is a windows application which supports various functions such as:

  •  add/delete/copy video hardware and copy over to and from blackberry
  • modify existing video hardware (read from blackberry or from saved profile)
  • save/load profiles to/from blackberry

Basically this is a windows desktop application for setup and configuration of video hardware which you can then copy over to your blackberry.  It can also read a blackberry and pull all of the existing video hardware into the desktop app for uses such as changes, adding new hardware, editing existing hardware setups, etc.  You can also save multiple video hardware setups as profiles to copy over to your blackberry(s) later on.

This application is currently for sale on the Total Control Estore.  Just click the purchase link on www.totalcontrolapp.com and drill down into the Subsections for Blackberry section (o/s 4.1 or o/s 4.3 and above subsections).  You will find the application for purchase on the list (towards the bottom).

There are new updated versions for the Blackberry Vidcam application.  Please contact us for the updated version if you are interested.  Below is a list of the updates:

  • Quality Mode Added: We added a new field labelled Quality in the camera setup section.  This will will map to available picture quality settings for for supported cameras when available.  Basically this will typically provide a method of compression.  In essence the more compression the smaller the picture size which = less bandwidth required or more frames per second since more frames can pass within the bandwidth required.  This is especially true for video over cellular communications.
    •  One example would be for Axis cameras you can now choose from (auto, 20, 40, 50, 60, 80) in the Quality field.
      • Auto: Use whatever compression the video hardware is current setup for.
      • 20-80: The higher the # the more compression.  More compression = smaller picture size (Kb) so typically we will see better frame rates.  The tradeoff is that the higher the compression the more artifacts in the picture (aka the picture will look more blurry).  The opposite is true also.  The lower the compression the better quality the picture.
  • Digest Authentication Support:  We added support for digest authentication.  We do not recommend this mode if you can avoid it as it will slow down the frame rate of the video; especially on cellular.  It is supported however and it automatic in the application.  This is no setup required in the application to support this method.
  • Snapshot SD Card Support Added:  Support has been added for saving picture snapshots to SD cards when they are available in the Blackberry.  Under 'System Settings' of the Main Menu you will now find two options:
    • /store: this is the original storage method.  this method will save a single snapshot in the application which can only be viewed from within the application.
    • STORAGE: use this setting to save snapshots to your SD card.
      •  If you choose this method for snapshot storage make sure you have a SD card inserted into your Blackberry.  If you choose this method and do not have an SD card inserted it will only save a single snapshot within the /store method above.
      • With this method and an SD card you can take as many snapshots as you want until the SD card is full.
      • You can also view all of your snapshots
      • Finally you can pull your snapshots off of the SD card directly or use the Blackberry utlity to transfer pictures.  The SD card will have a folder called 'TotalControl' which is where the pictures will be saved to.
  • Connect Desktop:  You will now see an option on the main menu labelled 'connect desktop'.  This option is for connecting to the 'Total Control ConfigMgr' windows desktop application that has just been released.  Please see its blog post for detailed information on this application.  Basically the application can be used to add, delete, modify, and re-order cameras for the application as well as save/load profiles of cameras into Blackberries.
  • Support For Non Standard PTZ Controls:  Added support for specialized PTZ controls found in some camera models.
  • Support For Non Standard Authentication Methods:  Added support for specialized authentication methods used on some video hardware.

Thanks to the initial success of the application along with the constant feedback from customers we have been able to revamp our existing O/S 4.3 & Up versions.  The new versions have a total UI rewrite as well as back end optimizations.  This combination brings a whole new experience to the Total Control Blackberry Edition Suite.

The new version is released and publicly available.  You can find the demo on the Blackberry Vidcam section.  Use the form for O/S 4.3 & Up.  Direct link here: Blackberry Demo Link Click Here

While this is a major revision to the application the update will be free for existing customers.  For existing customers please contact us to schedule your update.  We recommend existing customers try the new demo first before updating to make sure it is compatible with your setup and you prefer the new version over the old.

Some basic information regarding the new version:

  1. Total UI rewrite.  Onscreen buttons implemented.  This requires less menu button interaction so you can now click directly into sections and functions.  Just scroll to the button onscreen and click via trackball to select.
  2. Fields are also now selectable via trackball as well as menu button.
  3. Support for dual video stream hardware.  We now support stream 1 & 2 dual streaming cameras rtsp and rtpoverhttp video hardware.   These streams are typically used for mpg4 & h264 video.  The new stream format is listed below:
    1. jpg - jpg snapshot stream
    2. mjpg - full mjpg stream
    3. rtsp - rtsp stream 1 (mpg4 or h264)
    4. rtpoverhttp - rtpoverhttp stream 1 (mpg4 or h264)
    5. rtsp2 - rtsp stream 2 (mpg4 or h264)
    6. mpg4 - rtpoverhttp stream 2 (mpg4)
  4. Auto video resize on jpg or mjpg streams.  The application will now automatically resize the video to fit the screen no matter what size it is receiving or is selected in setup.  You can toggle this function on/off.  Please see new manual for details.
  5. On screen icon controls:  you can now invoke onscreen icons for live viewing controls by clicking the trackball.  A menu of buttons will show at the bottom of screen.  scroll and click trackball to select icon for control.  See manual for details.
  6. Large icon support for Storm: On the main menu now is 'Icons'.  Change to 'large' for Storm users then see #5 above for more information on use.
  7. Return arrow button disabled.  Many users kept accidentally hitting the return arrow which would exit the application.  we have disabled this now so the way to exit the application is via Menu, Close.
  8. Application startup time improved.  The application now loads almost instantly.
  9. Select cameras from list connection time improved.  The amount of time to go into the camera selection screen, select a camera, and start the video has been vastly improved.
  10. ip or url changed to 'ip or domain': many customers were confused by the listing of 'url' in the login info section and would input the full url to the video.  This is not required as the application already handles all of this for you so that all you need to know actually is the ip address or domain name.  we designed the application to input http:// and the actual video path for you so you don't have to worry about this.  And so we changed the 'url' field to 'domain' so it would be easier to understand this.
  11. Autoswitch on main menu.  The autoswitch function is no longer a toggle but seperate on/off buttons.  This is easier to understand when selecting to know if you turned it on or off.
  12. Autoswitch On icon:  Now when you turn on autoswitch function and start video you will see a small green square icon on the top left to indicate the autoswitch function is running.  when you turn off the function the icon will disappear.
  13. Camera shot: when selected from the menu you now have 2 on screen buttons; one for taking a snapshot and one for loading the last taken snapshot for viewing.
  14. Manual connection options: you now have the ability to choose your connection type in System Settings of the Main Menu.  To change connection type select the type you want, click 'save' on menu, exit app, and restart.  you should now see the new connection type highlighed by default.  Choices are:
    1. Direct (default):  this connection type uses a direct connection to the video hardware.  This is for typical personal blackberries or BIS connected blackberries.
    2. BES: Use this method for connection through a BES.
    3. Wifi: Use this method for connection via wifi.  Note your blackberry needs to support wifi and be connected to a wifi network in order for it to work.
  15. Better Storm support.  New algorithms and optimization plus large icons now provide a better experience for Storm users while maintaining support for regular blackberries.  Storm suggestions are:
    1. Icons: click on main menu and select 'large' icons.  Now while viewing a video feed click the screen to bring up the large control icons at the bottom of screen.  scroll through icons and click screen to select.
    2. Autoresize: In portrait mode for live viewing you will want to toggle off the auto video resize function as this will stretch the video to fill your screen in portrait mode which is undesirable.  To toggle off this function simply bring up the large icons and find the 'blue lcd tv' styled icon.  click to toggle the function off.  In landscape mode however autoresize works well though so either click to toggle back on or leave it on and view in landscape mode directly.
  16. New Demo Videos Here:
    1. New Version Demo Vid Part 1
    2. New Version Demo Vid Part 2

Due to many requests we have created larger versions of the vidcam application.  We have now created 32 & 64 video feed versions.

So all together we now have:

Singlecam

Multicam4, 8, 16, 32, 64

We are also still providing custom development for specific projects.

We are developing an external application for large setups and commercial setups which would benefit from setup outside of the mobile phone environment.

Initially this will be a Windows application and will have functionality such as:

  • add/delete/edit one or more companies
  • save profile list for phone with all cameras and connection information
  • copy profile to multiple phones/handheld devices
  • save profile from phone/device to computer application
  • password protect application
  • master password protect camera setup in phone
The application will be released seperately and will have a seperate cost associated with it.  Look for release in the next month or two.

The Total Control Partner Program has been released.  Now integrators can custom logo label the application for their customers.  Please inquire directly for details on this program.

Note: The program is currently for Blackberry only.  Other interfaces will be released when available.
