Remote Edition: Autostart Options Tutorial

Remote Edition: Autostart Options Tutorial

This tutorial will show how to setup Remote Edition on Iphone/Itouch so that you can 'autostart' a profile as well as automatically 'start at' various sections of the application.  These options are provided for users who don't want to have to click through everything and would like to 'automate' some of the process since it may be repetitive.

Examples might be:

  • The user only has 1 profile in the application so there is no need to click on it every time to enter it when the app starts.  You can have the application automatically enter a selected profile when it starts every time instead of haivng to click on it.
  • The user only has or always uses the same Category & SubCategory every time so they don't want to have to click through them every time.  The application can automatically drill down to the desired section whenever a profile is entered.
  • The user always uses the same GUI device to start with in the application.  The application can automatically start directly into a favorite device GUI whenever a profile is entered.
  • The user just wants to open the app and always start right into a favorite device GUI.  By combining 'AutoStart Profile' with 'Start At Directly To GUI Of Device' the user can just open the app right into the favorite device GUI automatically.

Prerequisites:

  • AutoStart Profile: v1.2
  • 'Start At' To The Device Listing Of SubCategory: v1.2
  • 'Start At' Directly To The GUI Of A Listed Device: v1.3

AutoStart Profile:

With this option you can have the application automatically start a 'profile' when you open the application.  By using this option you won't have to click on a profile when the application starts.  To select a profile to automatically start:
  1. Click the 'admin' button on the top left of the main application screen.
  2. Towards the bottom you will find 'Profile List'.  Click 'Start with:' (pic 1) to slide into the available profile or choose none to turn off (pic 2).
    1.
  3. Once you have chosen which profile or none click the red 'Update' button (pic 1) to save.
  4. Now exit the application and start it again to run it with the profile autostart function applied.

'Start At' Function:

The 'start at' function allows the user to automatically start into a category, subcategory, or even a single device GUI automatically once a profile is entered.  You will need to create the categories, sub categories, and devices before being able to select them here.   Select where you want that profile to auto start at and save the edited profile.  To setup this fuction:
  1. Edit an existing Profile and at the bottom you will see the 'start at' field.
    1.
  2. Click the field and you will be presented with your start at choices.  When you click in a top 'Section' you will be presented with options on the bottom half of page for the section.
    1. Start In SubCategory Or Room
      1.
    2. Start In Directly To Device GUI
      1. .
    3. Click a top section to show the options in that section to 'start at'.  Then just click the option you want to 'start at' in the bottom section to select that option.
    4. This will take you back to the main profile edit screen.  Just click the 'save' button on the top right to save your new settings.  Now when you enter that profile it will automatically drill down to the option you selected in 'start at' every time until you change it.

Combing Both Autostart Profile & Start In:

If you want to fully automate the application to drill down into a section/device automatically then just autostart a profile & select a 'start at' option.  Exit the application and then go back in.  From now on the application will automatically start the profile and drill down to whatever section you setup in 'start at'.
